Before: The home, built in 1950 in Woodbury, CT, recorded radon levels of 8.7 pCi/L, posing significant health risks, and lacked effective humidity control.

After: The installation of a radon mitigation system featuring a Sedona dehumidifier dramatically improved the home’s air quality. Radon levels were reduced to below the EPA’s safety threshold, and the dehumidifier effectively manages the humidity levels, creating a healthier living environment.

Experienced radon testing & radon mitigation contractor in Woodbury

Does your home or property have high radon levels? If levels are above 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends installing a radon reduction system. As a tasteless, odorless, and invisible gas, radon can only be identified through testing. So if you're not sure about your property, Apex Radon Solutions is the trusted radon mitigation company that can help you answer this question!

Health facts about home radon:

  • Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers in the United States.
  • More than 20,000 Americans die of radon-related lung cancer every year.
  • Radon is a more significant health risk for children than adults.
  • Breathing radon poses a greater health risk than ingesting water that contains radon.
  • Smokers exposed to radon will substantially increase their likelihood of developing lung cancer.

While having any amount of radon in your home or building can be scary, there is no reason to worry. The modern radon mitigation systems from Apex Radon Solutions are highly effective in reducing home radon levels without causing much inconvenience.

At Apex Radon Solutions, we can help you choose the correct radon mitigation solution for your home and ensure that the installation process goes smoothly.

Job Stories From Woodbury, CT
Exterior Radon Mitigation System Installed for Slab Home in Woodbury

In Woodbury, we worked on a slab-on-grade home where radon levels consistently tested above 4.0 pCi/L, particularly in the bedroom areas of the house.

Because the home includes piping and radiant heat within the concrete slab, careful planning was required to avoid disturbing existing systems beneath the floor. Part of the slab had previously been sealed, but elevated readings continued on one side of the home.

To better address the higher radon readings near the bedrooms, an exterior mitigation approach was selected. The system was designed with a horizontal pipe run entering the home from the left side of the house to improve airflow beneath the slab while minimizing disruption inside the living space.

This layout allowed the mitigation system to specifically target the higher-reading side of the home while working within the limitations of the slab construction and embedded heating system.

Custom Radon Mitigation Solution for a 1989 Woodbury Home

In Woodbury, a homeowner with a 1989-built home and a radon level of 6.8 sought a specialized mitigation solution. Our team designed a system tailored to the home’s unique structure—an unfinished basement without a sump pump or water guard. The radon pipe was strategically placed in the middle of the basement, following a path along the support beam, which required minimal disturbance and provided optimal radon exhaust. Additionally, following a specific request from the homeowner, a communications test was conducted before the installation to ensure the system’s compatibility and effectiveness, as emphasized by state consultant Amanda Perkins.

Customized Radon Mitigation Using Sedona Technology in a 1950 Woodbury Residence

Faced with the dual challenges of high radon levels and excess humidity in their 1950-built Woodbury home, the homeowners opted for a comprehensive solution. The installation of a radon mitigation system that included a Sedona dehumidifier integrated with the home’s furnace addressed these issues effectively. This system not only lowered the radon levels beneath the safety threshold but also enhanced overall air quality by maintaining optimal humidity, thus preserving the health and comfort of the residents without compromising the home’s historic value.

Tested with a short-term radon test in the basement and it was high.

1959 built , single story home with full below grade basement has existing sub-slab mitigation system installed by seller when we purchased. Installer is no longer in business. I recently purchased a continuous radon monitor that is showing an average reading 6.5-7.0 pCi/L over the past couple of months. Home also has an interior french drain system with two sump pits. I'm concerned about the elevated radon level in the home with mitigation in place.
